Have I Got a Line for You–For Survival, Of course
It’s essential to have dependable rope or line of some kind in your survival kits. You never know when it will come in handy.
A friend recommends 550 lb. Type III paracord. It’s light, strong, and inexpensive. He says for one hundred feet of five hundred fifty pound test you can’t touch it.
This Type III paracord is:
* 100% Nylon
* 550 lb. test, 7 strand core
* 5/32″ diameter
* Made in the U.S.A. by a certified U.S. government contractor
It’s rated with 4.7 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com. One reviewer says it’s “the real deal,” not some cheap stuff.
Here are some possible ways to use this paracord. One person uses it for leashes to walk nine dogs! Have it handy to lower something down a hill or wall, or put it to use in bailout equipment.
My friend says it’s easy to tie and is the right size for boot laces. The weave holds a knot well. He suggests it would be useful to wrap sleeping bags and make a sling to carry them.
It is also perfect for making a guide line through trees or brush. That way you can follow it in the dark, such as when you want to go from a tent or boat.
Because this paracord is light, how about throwing it over tree limbs and putting up radio antennas? If you’re a ham radio operator or want to listen to shortwave broadcasts, an advantage is that the cord isn’t very visible, so your antennas won’t draw undue attention.
If you’ve got other suggestions or can relate an incident when a dependable line was useful in a tough spot, why not leave a comment?
