Survival Kitchen–A Stovetop Nut Roaster Could Come in Handy
Lehman’s is having a big overstock sale now, and an item that intrigues me is a stovetop nut roaster. It seems like a fun item to have, but also can be useful in the survival kitchen for a couple of reasons. I’d also like to know what you think of it.
.
The idea is that with a stovetop nut roaster, you can have toasty, crunchy, delicious nuts, fast. Lehman’s says it’s ideal for glazing nuts in ten minutes. You can use the recipes that come with the roaster or use ready-made glazes. Use this stovetop nut roaster for peanuts, almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts and cashews. If you’ve got walnut or pecan trees in your yard, this would be great to have.
According to the Lehman’s site, all you do is heat the pan on a gas or electric stove, then add nuts, spices and oil. Then turn the stay cool handle to rotate the stainless steel dasher. The heavyweight aluminum pan with a non-stick cooking surface is durable and easy to clean.
Make nut treats to give as gifts or to enjoy yourself. Why not set them aside in your survival pantry for later?
As for its value in the survival kitchen, why couldn’t you use this nut roaster over a campfire if you’re roughing it for a while? If you’re down to eating wild plants and have a source of edible nuts in the area, this nut roaster could come in handy to make those nuts more palatable.
Here’s another thought. Could you make parched corn with this nut roaster if you have some dry corn and a little cooking oil? That would certainly be a good survival food. If you try it, I’d like to know the result.
